John Henry Miller, Restauranteur and Inventor
Acknowledgment
John Henry Miller was born on October 26, 1876 in Washington D. C. to Charles
and Katherine Menges Miller. At the age of 67 he was granted a patent for a
corkscrew.
In 1912, John Henry and his brother Frederick moved from Washington, D. C. to
Baltimore and purchased Schneider
‟
s Old German Cafe on Fayette Street. They
initially called their restaurant Miller Brothers German Cafe and later simply
Miller Brothers Restaurant. The restaurant gained national recognition and
became
“
the place to eat
”
in Baltimore.
