Spring Forward
“
Spring Forward, Fall Back
”
is the thing to remember for the semi-annual
“
Daylight Savings Time
”
adjustment.
How did all this come about? In order to save energy for war production
Daylight Savings Time was begun in the United States during World War I. It
would take advantage of later hours of daylight between April and October.
During World War II, Daylight Savings Time became a federal requirement. In
the interlude between wars individual states and cities made their own choice for
observing Daylight Savings Time.
Congress passed the Uniform Time Act in 1966 which standardized the length of
Daylight Saving Time. There are still a few areas of the country that do not
observe the practice.
