In a Corky press release entitled "Open the bottle - with a few thimbles of pure air!",
Girtag said "A unique and astonishingly simple way of opening bottles has been made
possible by a Swiss invention now granted patents in all the world. The opener functions
with air - with just pure common air. Our argument: Air is free for everybody and
everywhere."
In the United States the list of stores and mail order firms selling the Corky in the early
years was long: Macy's ($4.99), Kaufmann's ($5), Bullock's Santa Ana ($6), Myers
Brothers ($5), The Fair - Chicago ($4.98), Gifts of Fashion ($5.00), and Hoffritz ($4.95
in a 1967 advertisement).
In a 1984
Chicago Tribune
Christmas
advertisement, Marshall Field & Company
offered the Corky for $18.00. Today the
Corky can be found on the Internet in the
$25 price range. Most Corky's have a black
body but handles can be found in black,
chrome, or both. Needle covers can be
found black, chrome, and white.
The Corky was also produced with a
red body and black handles
