Würtemberg Metallwarenfabrik, 734 Geislingen/Steige has had the WMF trademark in
the United States since the mid-1950s. The company was founded in 1853 by Daniel
Straub, a miller from Geislingen. The WMF cork ejector is the same as the Emide. Most
likely, Emide private labeled it for WMF. WMF cautions:
The bottle may be opened only when it is wrapped in a napkin!
A WMF cork ejector engraved
"Kirchenvorstand Hemmendorf 69" - an
interesting souvenir for a 1969 meeting of
a church board in Hemmendorf,
Germany.
On March 26, 1964 Helmut Bross from Altenberg applied for a patent on a cork ejector
similar to the six Streicher patents. This was a month before any of the Streicher
applications were submitted. Surprisingly, all six Streicher applications were approved
and patents granted within a very short time after submission. Bross Patent No.
1,432,292 was not issued until after the last Streicher patent was approved - April 10,
1969.
