Dr. Thomas Branwell developed a method of pasteurizing grape juice in
1869. Until 1893, he called it “Dr. Welch’s.” In 1893, he changed the
name to “Welch’s Grape Juice,” and the renamed product premiered at
the World’s Columbian Exposition.
In the Connecticut Commissioners report on the 1893 Exposition, Landers, Frary & Clark is
among the long list introduced with “The following is a list of intending exhibitors who were
applicants for space, but who, for reasons heretofore explained, declined their allotments, or
were denied admission for lack of space.” The photo of the LF&C exhibit building is from the
1904 St. Louis World’s Fair.
Enterprise Manufacturing Company of Philadelphia exhibited in the “Heating and Cooking
Apparatus and Appliances” group in the Manufacturers’ Building.
