Maggi
Julius Michael Johannes Maggi was born in
Switzerland October 9, 1846. He was the son
of a Swiss and an Italian immigrant. He
studied in Basel and as a young man moved
to Budapest where he worked in a mill and
was eventually transferred to a Swiss branch
where he began his curiosity of nutrition.
When he met a man named Schuler, they
experimented with vegetable oils. By 1886
they introduced Maggi soups and in the
same year the legendary Maggi spice was
launched. Within a year distribution
agencies were spread throughout Europe
and the United States. The yellow and red
colors of the unusual bottle shape and the
star logo become well known. In 1947 the
Maggi firm merged with Nestlé companies.
Today the company produces a wide range
of products under the Maggi label
