Corkscrew case ends in hung jury

- A jury was dismissed yesterday after it was unable to

reach a verdict in the case of a man accused of killing another man with the

corkscrew

of a pocketknife.

The Cairns jury in the case was retired on Monday afternoon by Justice Stan

Jones but returned yesterday unable to reach a verdict on a murder charge

against Wesley Allan Brabon, 24. Brabon is accused of the October 28, 2001,

murder of Paul Christopher Williams, 21, in the Cairns inner city. Williams was

stabbed six times and died after a fatal blow to the heart.

Evidence throughout the trial detailed tension between Williams and friend Luke

Gray and Brabon and his friend Danny Van Pelt following a night of drinking in

Cairns nightspots.
