Columbo explains how the crime was committed.

A syringe was used to inject poison from a Puffer Fish (Fugu) into the needle of the

Corkmaster. Jourdan left it for the unwitting restaurant owner who then poisoned

himself when he used it to open a bottle of wine.

Jourdan plays the role of a restaurant critic who gives good reviews to owner for a

percentage of their profits. When Vittorio Rossi refuses to pay, Jourdan commits the

crime.

Note: The author

has never seen a black Corkmaster and it is quite possible that one was painted black for

the movie.
