On December 5, 1958, Farandatos applied for another
U. S. Patent. Several months later, on September 10,
1959 he submitted the same for a British Patent. The
British Patent No. 930,372 was granted July 3, 1963. In
the patent drawing the worm shows up once again,
but the gas cartridge is substantially different. This was
the well-known cartridge used in the popular British
"Sparklets" Soda Syphons. This patent is not limited to
cork removal. That is the first and major point but it
also indicates "it may be used to advantage…in many
other applications such as inflating automobile tires,
footballs…life rafts and the like."
Meanwhile engineers at British Oxygen were working on improving the "Control Valve
Appliances for Dispensing Pressure Fluid." Christopher Alan Hogg and Leslie Albert
Dunton filed for their English patent under the banner of British Oxygen on February 3,
1961 and patent number 971,161 was issued on September 30, 1964 (below left). Brian
Sidney Bennett made some refinements and applied for his patent on December 27,
1962 and Patent 994,203 was issued June 2, 1965 (below right). It is interesting to note
that these are the designs that were ultimately used in the production of the Sparklets
Corkmaster.
